A Happy New Year to everyone who follows the Gregorian calendar! To everyone else: A Happy Rest of the Year!

Every time I walk my dogs and see a sign that says "No Dogs on Grass", I'm puzzled. Because it's patently untrue for my little poopers.

Hacks, hacks, hacks | Moleskinerie

Hacks, hacks, hacks | Moleskinerie : Interesting hack of a large, ruled Moleskine to create a calendar and task list.

Opinions on Google Tasks

I've tried Google Tasks for GTD and generally liked it but found it limited in functionality. Currently I'm using my small Moleskine plain cahier for capture, plus OmniFocus for iPad. We'll see how that goes. --http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnifocus/ --http://www.amazon.com/ (search for pocket moleskine cahier) Thoughts on GTasks: I've used the Inbox for capturing items but it doesn't need to be used heavily if you're sorting items as you input them. Still, it is useful for quick capture. Haven't tried to link tasks to projects; no real need if reviewing regularly, in my opinion. --But you can set a date for a task, which then shows up in the All Day section of your Google Calendar. --Also, you could "tag" a task by adding a label to the Notes for the task. Then you could search for tags via ctrl-F (Find) on a specific list page. Not an elegant solution, though. GTasks is not as functional as a program like OmniFocus, but it i...

My Current GTD Approach

Capture tool: Moleskine Cahier, pocket size. Precise V5 pen. Why? Fits in any pocket. Paper "starts up" instantly. Unobtrusive, quick input. Software: http://GQueues.com. Why? Integrates with Google Calendar. Good Web interface with drag and drop. Can be customized to work with GTD (they offer a video showing some ideas for that, but for inspiration I used the GTD Setup guide for Outlook from davidco.com ). iPhone app (not awesome, but it works). Cons: presentable but not beautiful interface; no search yet (but a good weekly review will minimize that problem!).

A Simple Index Card GTD System

" The system is simple. I use a small stack of colored 3 inch by 5 inch index cards, held together with a small bulldog clip. During the week, the stack resides in my shirt pocket; on the weekends, it moves effortlessly to my jeans or shorts. 'Back to Paper...'

"I recently deleted Things for Mac and Things for iPhone. It wasn't because of the recent squabbles among productivity nerds about Things vs. Omnifocus. It was because of a book called  The Shallows . It's bringing me back to paper." http://www.cjchilvers.com/journal/back-to-paper-back-to-work.html

Syncing Microsoft Outlook to Google Apps

There is only one good, complete solution I've found for synching Outlook to Google Apps. In other words: Outlook Calendar to GCal Outlook Contacts to GContacts Outlook Tasks to GTasks Outlook Notes to GDocs That program is gSyncit, which can be found here: http://www.daveswebsite.com/software/gsync/ It's not cheap, but it works (in my case). If you also sync Outlook to the iPhone, make sure you check the settings in iTunes before you sync. Sure, you can use Google's GCal sync http://www.google.com/support/calendar/bin/answer.py?answer=89955 but it only syncs calendars. You also can sync Outlook Tasks via Toodledo http://www.toodledo.com and some third-party software it links to on its site. In my case, though, the syncing didn't quite work (but maybe that was my fault; still, I wasn't able to fix it).

GTD and Google Tasks

Like a lot of people, I've been trying to find the right app for GTD ( http://davidco.com ). Currently, I'm trying Google Tasks, and I think it works pretty well. Some other apps I've tried: RTM ( http://rememberthemilk.com ) is clunky to use with GTD, although there is an extension for Firefox (and maybe Chrome) that provides an improved interface (called something like A Better RTM). RTM has a nice iPhone app, although the free version is limited. Regarding Google Tasks, I've found that it can work OK with GTD.  I set up GTasks according to the GTD Outlook guidelines from David Allen Co., then bookmarked/docked the following link for an expanded, full-screen view of GTasks (including menu bar):  https://mail.google.com/tasks/ canvas This setup requires more manual processing than some web apps, but it's free, and keyboard shortcuts (like shift-return to access the notes part of a task, and tabbing) can help speed the process. Also, using X's and asteris...
